Karolina Derynska (Projekt: Polska):
Normalization of Illiberal Democracy
Illiberal democracy goes hand in hand with populism. When we talk about illiberal democracy or populism in our European context we use the word ‘the rise’ – the rise of illiberal democracy, the rise of populism – but it is an outdated narrative. Currently, we are dealing with normalization of illiberal democracy.
Ferenc Huvos (Republikon Institute):
Trump is not the only admirer of Orbán in America: his potentially greatest challenger for 2024, Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida is also a devotee. His controversial law, the so-called Don’t Say Gay bill, barring teachers from discussing LGBTQ+ issues with students in school has been, by the admission of his press secretary, modeled heavily after Hungary’s anti-LGBT legislation.

Jan Mosovsky (Liberalni Institute):

Average Employee Has to Earn 163% of Their Contractual Wage

The cost of an employee in the Czech Republic with the previous quarter’s average salary, 40,086 crowns, and normal benefits, is 163% of their contractual salary. This is a decrease of one percentage point compared to last year’s calculation.

Bartlomiej Jabrzyk (FOR):

No one voted against, Kersti Sarapuu and Siret Kotka, who were not in the Riigikogu building at the time, and former party member Mihhail Stalnuhhin abstained from voting. Both Kotka and Sarapuu were among the initiators of the statement and support it.

Mate Hajba (Free Market Foundation):

Russia and Its Weakness

Russia. The word still evokes images of conspiracy behind gray concrete blocks, while a strong military marches through the streets in a tour de force of the iron hand that rules the harsh country. The Kremlin was working hard to ensure that this stereotype, of influential and ruthless Soviet toughness, is exaggerated. Disinformation, ostentatious secret service operations and bellicose rhetoric all served this illusion.
