Green Investment: Integrating Finance Sector and Green Deal [WEBINAR]

FNF

Green investment is the process of directing financial flows to sustainable development priorities, for example, from banking, insurance, or investment. These flows are key in the implementation of the objectives of the European Green Deal.

The European Union strongly supports the transition to a low-carbon, more resource-efficient and sustainable economy and a financial system that supports sustainable growth, but fostering green investment implies substantial transformations in the finance sector as well as in businesses’ strategies to stay competitive under new legislative directives of the EU single market, such as the EU’s Fit for 55 plan.

Green investment is conceptualised around a variety of challenging targets set out to make the EU single market more low-carbon, climate-resilient, and resource-efficient. Core benefits of green investment, such as emission reduction, transparency and a regular flow of investments into environmental objectives are challenged by lacking definitions of what is actually considered “green”, businesses’ risk to lose advantages in their global competitiveness, and difficulties in distinguishing sustainable investments from greenwashing.

This roundtable discussion circles around the role of the finance sector as a key driver in promoting green investment, businesses’ new strategies around financial resilience, and the EU’s role in supporting sustainable growth and global leadership in sustainable finance.
